Rainy, the Weather of the Week

It is time for a whole new set of lesson plans! For the next couple months we will be having different types of weather every week. This week was originally going to be sunny, but it was rainy so I switched it.

Monday: This day was super busy! I watched Miss Emma, went through the upstairs toys for keeps or donating, then organized a corner next to our TV, that I finally could thanks to my hubby finally putting up our homemade shelves a week ago. I took Ares to a doctor appointment, but for some reason the doctor never came out to get us, and his secretary left at 4pm (5min after we got there). We waited 25 min, and I tried to yell for him through the secretary window with no avail. I then left him Ares' school reports and a note and left. I was very upset.

Tuesday: We stopped by my grandparent's house we stopped by there and had the girls play with Emma, while Kyle and I visited with Jenny, Grandma, and Granddad. We then went home. It was raining while we were headed home, and I was able to catch a picture of Brigid looking out into the rain.

It was then time to pick Ares up from school, and then we delivered some items from Ares' fundraiser to family. We then went to my mom's where the we ate dinner and Ares did homework. When it was time to go home, little Miss Ceridwen got into a puddle! I had to take off her shoes in the car, but she was so thrilled she had got to splash in a puddle. On the way home we all sang "Rain Rain Go Away", "If All the Rain Drops", and "It's Raining It's Pouring". When we got the kids all got hot baths, and we finished watching Star Wars.

Wednesday: I was down for the count. I had felt queasy the past couple days, but I swore it was nerves. I was wrong though and the stomach bug got me down. Kyle was super sweet and came home on his lunch break to take Ares to school. When he got home for the day he helped take care of the kids, and took Ares to tutoring because he is an awesome dad and husband like that! He even did the art project with the kids. This week's art project was making rain drops.

Thursday: I was not feeling the greatest, but I got Ares to school. By the time Kyle got home I was feeling much better, and helped the girls with their science project. This week's science project was making a rain maker. I found a video on youtube on how to make one using aluminum foil. Here's what we did...
1.) Seal off the bottom of the tube. I cut out a circle, sliced it, and glued it to the tube. I then secured it with a rubber band.

2.) Rip off a couple sheets of aluminum the length of the tube you're using.

3.) Roll up each piece of foil

4.) Twist the rolled up foil to look like this:

5.) Then twist the pieces together in two different places so it kind of looks like this (I used three pieces but you can use 2):

6.) Place the rolled up foil into the tube then add what you'll be using for sound. I went with rice, but next time I think I'll do dried kidney beans or bird seed so it would be slower.

7.) Then I sealed off the other end, and had the girls play with it.

Friday: Kyle had written down the notecard for Chinese for rain the night before luckily so I was able to try and teach it to the girls that day before he got home. Kyle really liked this one because he said the character looks like rain, and it does kind of.

Halloween Week!

This week's theme was Halloween! It has been so fun filled, and I'm rather sad it's over.

Monday: The girls did a water play activity. Once Ares was out of school, Kyle and I picked him up, and then we went over to my mom's for dinner. Then later that evening we went to Ares' first school concert (he had the stomach flu for his Kindergarten one last year). He was so excited because he was able to wear his Batman costume for it. He did an amazing job, and I am so proud of him!

Tuesday: We carved our pumpkins! I had the kids tell me what they each wanted on their pumpkins. The order is the right to left. Ares wanted a mean face, Ceridwen wanted Abby (as in Abby Cadabby), and Brigid wanted a baby. This is what I came up with. Don't you just love my drawing ability. ;)

The girls loved digging out the pumpkin guts, but Ares was not thrilled. Once he did it though he loved playing with them.

Wednesday: I let the pumpkin seeds from our pumpkin carving soak overnight, and roasted them on Wednesday. I mixed them with a little olive oil and salt, baked them at 350 for 20 min, and they were fabulous!

 Since Ares' dad gets him every year for Halloween, I have always taken Ares out to trick or treat with family the night before. This year I had Ares dress up as Batman, and I made the twins costumes by myself. Brigid was Poison Ivy and Ceridwen was Harley Quinn.

Thursday: After taking Ares to school, the girls and I went over to my best friend Kyle Ann's house. The kids had a play date while Kyle Ann and I made candy apples with sprinkles for Ares class party, and a cake for her mother in law. I then brought the apples home and wrapped them all pretty for his class.

I then delivered these to Ares' class party, and his class loved them! It was such a fun party, and I got to talk to meet a lot of the parents for those kids who weren't in his class last year.

Friday: Since Halloween is officially over I had the girls do the exploding pumpkin science project. I poured baking soda into the pumpkins, had the girls add food coloring, and then watch the bubbles explode out of the pumpkin in fun colors.
