Second Week of Summer Fun! (May 31, 2015 to June 6,2015)

I think I am finally starting to accept the fact that I can't blog if I make my schedule too full! I know you guys are probably thinking... well it's about time she realized that! Last summer I hardly blogged at all, and I'm still not caught up with that. I think I will attempt to do a "Throwback Thursday" type of blog post every now and then just to show what kind of fun we were up to last summer. This post is not about last summer though, this is about our exciting week last week!

On Sunday, May 31st, we decided to have a family breakfast at the Donut Whole before church. For those of you who do not know, the Donut Whole is a locally owned and operated donut and coffee house in downtown Wichita. They are know for only using locally grown ingredients in their food, and their variety of flavors. They recently gained world wide attention with their Dr. Who Police Box Donuts. The kids and I had been there only once before, and this was Kyle's first time.

Ares always insists that he needs two donuts whenever we get donuts for breakfast, so he got the Double Chocolate and the Root Beer Float ones. Kyle got Rocky Road, and I got the Cinnamon Struesel. The girls both wanted pink donuts so we got them the Berry with sprinkles.

After church, my Dad graciously gave us Riverfest buttons! We were going to take the kids to the Science event they were going to have, but they posted the wrong times online, and we ended up getting there in time for their art project. The kids colored their papers with white crayon, and then painted over it with water colors.

Then it was jumpy castle time!

We then found a booth that was about model trains, and they let Ares take a turn driving it. We then found out they were holding a free open house at the Model Train Museum later in the week, so we made plans to go to that.

We walked around for a little bit, and then we came across the ICT Roller Derby. We watched for a little bit, and they tried to explain the rules, but I'm still not quite sure what those are. It was interesting to watch though.

After this we found the Cox booth, and the kids got to spin the wheel to win a prize. They won sun tan lotion and a squishy stress ball thing I the shape of a house. We then ran into their mascot, Digi. Now I thought this thing was an inflatable that was staked to the ground, but then it moved! It scared the crud out of me! I was not expecting there to be a person in that. The kids enjoyed meeting Digi, but Brigid loved him the most, which is unusual since she does not normally show affection to people/things she is not familiar with. It was very cute!

On our way back to the car, we came across a giant inflatable duck. Ends up it was for the Wichita Honor Flight. The Wichita Honor Flight is a great organization that takes elderly veterans in the area to visit war memorials in Washington D.C. Now, Ares had brought a bag of change with him, and when we told him what the Honor Flight program was, he immediately wanted to donate some of his money. He has such a giving heart! He helped count out $5, and we entered in to have a rubber duck in their duck race. Then it was time to go home.

On Monday, June 1st, Ares started his summer reading program, and we found out that his teacher from this last year, that he absolutely loves, was his teacher for the program. The girls and I then went to the park. After we picked up Ares from school, we went to the YMCA for some swimming time with the cousins. Unfortunately, the weather forcast said it was going to be warmer than it actually was, and we all ended up leaving early because of how cold the water was.

That evening was the kids first dance classes. Ceri has been begging to take ballet for months so we finally put her in the class. Thanks to my friend Chastity and my Aunt Jenny, Ceri was able to be properly attired for her ballet/tap class.

Brigid and Ares both had Hip Hop classes. Brigid's photos from class are on Kyle's phone that died this last week. Luckily I was there for part of Ares's class and was able to get photos of his. We will be taking more of Brigid's class next week.

On Tuesday, June 2nd, it was the usual morning activities, then it was off to gymnastics for Ceri. We used to have the girls in the same class, but Brigid wasn't being a good listener for her teacher so I switched her to swim lessons this month. Also, the girls rely too much on each other during joint activities like this, and I felt it was time they took separate classes. So far so good! Brigid and Ares both had classes in the evening, but we forgot the camera so we made sure to take pictures at this weeks classes.

Once Ares school was over, the kids, my cousin Parker, my Mom, and I all went to the open house at the Wichita Miniature Train Museum. I wasn't sure how the kids would react to it, but they absolutely loved it! We saw all different kinds of exhibits, played in the kids play room, and they each had a turn driving a toy train.

Afterwards, we went over to my Mom's. Brigid and Parker fell asleep in the car so we took them in to take naps. Ceri and Ares on the other hand were full of energy, so we set up the sprinkler in my Mom's backyard and they played with the neighbor boys.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, we again did our normal activities in the morning. Afterwards we picked up Ares and met up with my friend Christina and her children at the Great Plains Nature Center. We all had a lot of fun together, but alas they could not make it through the whole path so we cut our walk short.

It was such a hot day, I decided to treat the kids with slushies from Sonic, and we were in the time frame from 2-4pm when they have 1/2 price drinks and slushies.

Once Parker was picked up by his Mom, the kiddos and I headed over to the Bass Pro Shop. I had yet to go there since it opened a year or so ago, so we explored the store.

On Thursday, June 4th, Ares and I had a Mommy & Son breakfast date since everyone else wanted to sleep in. Ares told me he wanted a BIG breakfast so we picked up a donut (since he said that he needed that in his big breakfast), and we went to Jimmy's Egg. He got scrambled eggs, 3 silver dollar pancakes, bacon, his donut, and hot chocolate. He seriously ate the majority of his breakfast too! He only left a couple bites of eggs and one pancake.

The rest of the day was spent at home with the kids relaxing, and having fun together. Kyle and I were able to get some work done, so all in all it was a productive day.

On Friday, June 5th, it was national donut day! Kyle and I took the girls and Parker to go get some free donuts, but everywhere we went the line was out the door. We ended up stopping at Dillons for some. Then we ended up staying home most of the day. Kyle and I had some errands to run so the girls went over to my Mom's house to swim in her new kiddie pool.

On Saturday, June 6th, was a pretty busy day. We ran some errands, and then dropped the girls off with their Grandma for a sleepover! They were so excited!

Then my Aunt Dianna and her boys were in town, so she invited Ares to have a sleepover with Camden, his CFF (Cousin Friend Forever, and yes I just made that up lol)! He was ecstatic! He has been missing Camden like crazy. He had so much fun with them! Dianna took them to dinner, then Get Air Trampoline Park, and then back to Grammy and Granddad's house for outside fun, then sleep time.

To be continued next weekend for our continued fun in summer time!
