Ares absolutely loves the color blue. He wants all of his clothes to be blue, his bedroom to be blue,, and convinced us to have our new car be blue. It only makes sense that he wanted his birthday party to be blue as well. This was a great idea for me because that meant all I had to do was buy themed color stuff instead of Avenger or Buzz Lightyear stuff like the previous years. This is how awesome it turned out:
First I made blue cupcakes. I did this by using blue paper liner, and then dying white cake batter with blue food coloring. I then did the same thing with vanilla frosting with the blue food coloring. After decorating with icing I decorated with dark blue and light blue sixlets that I got at Candyopolis. I then shaped them into a six onto a beautiful glass platter that my Grandma let me borrow.
Then I made blue cake balls. I did this like the cupcakes, adding blue food coloring to the white cake mix batter. After the cake was baked I let it cool then I crumbled it. I then added 1/2 cup frosting to 5 cups cake crumbles. Then I mixed it up using my hands. I used an ice cream scoop to size up the cake balls. I did however use to big of an ice cream scoop so I would use a smaller one next time. I then froze the balls for an hour. I then melted white almond bark and dyed it with blue food coloring. Next time I think I will use the colored blue candy melts from Michaels because I'm hoping it wouldn't be so thick. I dipped the balls in the chocolate and tried to get them to stand up with the sticks in a colander but the balls were too heavy so I just ended up putting them like the picture below. My Grandma also let me borrow this pretty dish as well :)
Since I made the cupcakes and cake balls I didn't exactly have time to bake cookies so I had my husband buy some. According to all of my aunts and the kids at the party they were some very good cookies, and they thought I had made them. I tried to layer the cookies so they were blue, white, blue, but we couldn't find more of the kind we had bought previously so my hubby got the kind with blue sprinkles and it worked out just fine. Luckily my mom had a glass cookie jar that worked beautifully for this.
When I had gone to Candyopolis I had seen their awesome candy displays in vases, and thought I could do that! I borrowed some glass vases and candy dishes from my Grandma and used blue bubble gum, blue cotton candy, and two different shades of blue jelly beans and sixlets. I also used one of the vases to hold the striped straws for the kids' sodas. This was a HUGE hit with the kids, and since I didn't want to keep all of this candy I let them all take whatever candy they wanted in their blue treat bags that we had bought at Michael's.
I had given Ares the choice between blue pop or blue juice for his party, thinking that he would choose juice because he has asked for juice a lot lately, and we don't keep pop or juice in the house because of all the sugar in it ( I haven't had pop in 10 1/2 years!). He instead chose pop so we bought, I think, Berry Lemonade Jones' Soda. I took off the labels with Goo Gone, and it surprisingly also took off the made in Canada stamp on the glass too which was a nice surprise.
I also made pom pom balls for the party, and circle garland. I made the pom pom balls with tissue paper, and used the technique from when I made them for the girls' party. I made the circle garland by using kitchen twine, and glued blue and white circles cut out of scrapbook paper. I used my cricut machine for this, using the Plantiff School Book Font using the circle and made them 2".
What I didn't get to take picture of was the set up we had on the other side of the yard. We put up a tent cover to cover up our other table with the pizza we got for the kids' lunch. The whole party was awesome! Ares and his cousins had so much fun, and all the kids were so well behaved. :) I took a couple hundred pictures so here are some just to show how much fun they all had.
