Yellow, the Color of the Week

This week was crazy! My van was in the shop all week, I broke my dryer, and I was sick. I think I deserve props for all I was able to achieve despite all that! This is what happened this week for this family....

Monday: Labor Day! We had a lot of spending time with my in-laws, Janice and Wayne, and were able to go swimming at their house. The kids all had a blast, AND it was my water activity for the week :) For anyone who wants to see all the pictures of our Labor Day fun just click here. We also tried to teach Ares how to ride his bike without training wheels at my Dad's later that evening, but that wasn't as much fun for him.

Tuesday: Back to School for Ares! Since I wasn't feeling good at all, this day became a relaxation day. I had Ares do his homework, and then it was dinner time. Then Ares' started up karate again with the Young Champions of America, and did a good job for his first day back. We ended the evening of Ares' reading me an entire book to me, TWICE!!! We had just bought the book on Monday too so this was a spectacular achievement for him! I'm so proud of him!

Wednesday: This was my craziest day for awhile! I had to take the girls' to their 18month doctor appointment at 3 so I had to have my Mom pick up Ares from school because Kyle had to stay home, and wait for the dryer repair man (who didn't end up showing up until 5). My Mom was awesome because she let me borrow her van, and my sister Lindsey was kind enough to let Mom borrow her car since she didn't have work or school. I have such a generous family, and I love them so much! I picked up Ares after the appointment, and we then went to Grammie and Granddad's. Now, this was a little different then my lesson plans. Originally it was supposed to be watching the school buses outside of Ares' school, but it wasn't going to happen this week. Instead we visited Granddad, and was able to take a ride on his yellow tractor (riding lawn mower)!

Ares, Ceri, and Brigid are so lucky to have such an awesome Great Granddad! He gave them pin wheels to play with....

played with them in the backyard...

let them feed the ducks...

and let Ares play on the toy 4-wheeler.

Then the Logan's came over, and Ares and the girls played with their cousins. Grammie and Granddad's house is definitely the place where memories are made.

I thought Ares and Lily were making "soup" just like my sister Karen and my cousins Matt and Trevor, and myself used to do when we were kids. This was not the case though. Ares and Lily were actually making a lion. They had added water from the garden hose, threw in some cherries from the tree for its' blood, and then threw in sticks for the bones. They were waiting for it to grow so that it would turn into a lion and Ares would then name it Aslan (the lion from The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe). Sadly it didn't turn into a lion.

Then I witnessed one of the funniest things between Zach and Riley! I'm still not exactly sure what was going on, but they weren't hurting each other and were laughing so I figured it was ok.

After this I was dinner time, homework time, haircut time, and then bed time! Whew! What a busy night!

Thursday: I woke Ares up after 6am because I wanted him to get some studying in before school because he hadn't done so well the night before. He of course was not so thrilled with me, but it only took 20 min. We then got Ceri and Brigid up at 7, and went to do a science experiment. The experiment was the lemon fizz science project where you put baking soda, dish soap, food coloring, and lemon juice into a glass, and watch it fizz. Well I had decided to use a lemon and squeeze it, but this did not turn out so well. Since it wouldn't fizz I ended up putting vinegar in it so it would bubble up some for the kids. Next time we do this experiment I will use a bottle of lemon juice.

Since the kids were taste testing the lemon, I went ahead and let them do their taste testing too. First of course was the lemon.

Then it was pineapple time! They normally like pineapples, but they did not like it fresh like this for some reason. I kept trying to give it to the girls throughout the day too, and they would taste it, and put it back. I tried it, and it tasted like pineapple so I have no idea what their issue with it was.

Next was a yellow pepper, which, like all the other peppers they have taste tested in the past, they didn't like.

Then it was time for squash. This was a hit with Ceri.

Finally it was time for corn, and this was by far Brigid's favorite. I knew she liked her corn, but I never knew how much! Ares and Ceri like corn too, but not as much as Brigid. She would have eaten the whole can if I had let her (Yes I know I should have done corn on the cob, but this was easier with the kids).

Friday: We did our art project for our week today, which was to make sun window clings. Last night I made the outline, and let it dry.

Then I had the girls fill it.

We let it dry, and stuck it on the window. It's so pretty!

Thank you so much to my Aunt Jenny who let me borrow her art supplies for this project. She goes in detail with this project if you care to check it out on her blog, The Logan's.
