"H" the Letter of the Week

Surprise everyone! I actually have time in my schedule to blog about the letter of the week on the actual week it happened! Woo hoo!!! This week we learned about the letter "H". Luckily a lot of Ares' sight words start with "H" so I had him practice writing them, and sounding out other words that began with "H" (like I do every week with our weekly letter). This week I did this differently than I normally do, and took out a large poster sheet, and Ares and I named off things that started with "H", wrote them down, and then then drew pictures of the ones we could. Ares liked this much better than the flash cards he normally does so I will most likely do it again. Ceri and Brigid definitely liked it because they were able to color while we did this. :)

Our science project of the week was coloring on hot rocks. We got some decent size rocks from my Grandparents' drive way. I then placed them in a bowl and microwaved them for a little bit. (*Important side note* Use oven mitt or some kind of protection for rocks because they are hot when they come out.) Now Kyle and I supervised the kids with these rocks, and they did NOT touch them, except with their crayons. They really liked seeing the crayons melt once in contact with the heated stones.

Our art project this week was decorating hats. I bought 3 hats from the Dollar Tree in town, and I had a ton of my own art supplies for the kids to decorate with. These supplies included Sharpies, glitter pens, fine glitter, flowers, stickers, pipe cleaners, etc.

For our exploration this week we went on a nature hike. My camera died right after my first picture because we had forgotten to charge it after going to the rodeo the night before, and that really irritated Ares because he wanted me to take pictures of all the bugs that he found (rolly pollies, ants, locusts, etc.). I had all of the kids wear pants because they all have bad reactions to bug bites, so I wanted to reduce the amount of bites they would get. As far as I could tell this plan worked! :)
