Oklahoma Day Trip

My Mom had offered at the end of last week to take Ares, Brigid, Ceri, and I to the Oklahoma Aquarium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I of course said yes, because I love going places with my Mom. We were on the road by 8am and drove straight down to Tulsa and had lunch at McDonalds then it was time for some fun at the aquarium!

The first thing we were able to do was check out some starfish and horseshoe crabs.

Ares was able to feed the turtles algae. Man those things could bite!

The next exhibit that we explored was one based on the Amazon. Ares' favorite part was the eel, he wanted me to show this picture to his old Kindergarten teacher. :)

Then Ares got to feed the sting rays shrimp. He loved this even more than the turtles! The girls however weren't huge fans of the sting rays. Anytime they could see them swim towards them they would hide.

We checked out the coral life next.

After that it was time to watch them feed the bull sharks!

After this we took a short break and walked around the gift shop, then it was time to watch them feed the piranhas, electric eel, and archer fish. We didn't get to see the piranhas, but we were able to see the eel and archer fish feedings. My personal favorite was the archer fish because they squirted water at their target in order to catch it. It was so cool!

In this same area we were able to see clown fish living in sea anemones, jelly fish, and sea horses.

We also saw them feed the otters (which were very disappointing), and the beavers. I had no idea that beavers were that huge! The beavers were a very important part of our visit because Ares and I had just gotten to the part of the book I had been reading to him, The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe, where the beavers were helping the children. He thought this was so cool!

Ares and the girls had such a blast at the aquarium it was definitely worth the drive! My mom was so incredibly generous in letting us join her. Thank you Mom for taking us!

After the aquarium we drove to Ponca City, OK to eat dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant, Enrique's! Enrique's has the best Mexican food I have ever had (and believe me I am a huge Mexican food fan so I've had my share)! It is located in the Ponca City Airport, which is a small airport where small planes come and go as they please. The best part is that if you're lucky you can see some of the airplanes coming and going while you eat!

Enrique's has received awards for their salsa, and they have delicious homemade chips.

For my birthday meal I chose shrimp enchiladas with pinto beans (healthier option than refried). I am a person who likes just cheese enchiladas, but since I've been to this place I will eat anything in my enchiladas and it tastes fantastic! The shrimp is my favorite kind so far, and I had these for my birthday last year too. If you ever find yourself in Oklahoma or near the border of OK and KS, I would definitely make the trip if I were you! Thank you Mom for a fantastic early birthday dinner! :)
